New Push for Generics (CE #14767)

Generally, lower costs for generic drugs, compared with brands, has made generics a fundamental tool for controlling total pharmacy costs. Generic use has increased; average GDR is 85-89% of total scripts, while only constituting 25-27% of total costs. Long-term challenges remain as generics are subject to dramatic price increases of 100% to 1,000%.

Competition (number of generics manufacturers making a drug) can make a drug unprofitable; manufacturers may exit the market leaving only ONE manufacturer. The drug can then enter a hyperinflation stage. Carol Bailey will discuss significant price increases and the complicated system of defining generics to prevent “flipping.”

Carol served for 8 years on the DAHU Board as President and Ed Chair. She is a nationally recognized pharmacy expert who is frequently asked to provide industry strategies and trends to analysts in the US and global financial markets.

As President and CEO of TEAM Pharmacy Consulting, an independent national pharmacy consulting firm, Carol has over 26 years of experience in the healthcare industry—22 of which are in pharmacy benefits. She has significant experience in, and knowledge of, the PBM industry and is an expert in PBM pricing methodologies, benefit design modeling, clinical recommendations, contracting, RFP development and data analysis.

Donate a Backpack to Help a Student

In advance of the upcoming school year, we will be collecting backpacks for the CPS Rainbow Room! Parents can use the Rainbow Room to supplement their children’s school needs, including backpacks, clothes, shoes, and other items (all new - not used). Backpacks can be purchased at Walmart from $7.00 to $12.00 each or donations can also be taken, but backpacks are preferred! DAHU had a low participation last year and we look forward to improving greatly this year. Please help a student!
